Privacy and Entertaining
Sometimes practical considerations drive the design solution. This residential lot needed privacy screening from neighboring homes, buildings and a rental unit. John also wanted outdoor entertainment opportunities. The solution featured Rhamnus hedge, a pétanque court, and a patio with fire pit. I selected plants for their year-round interest, low maintenance requirements, drought tolerance, as well as their shape, color, texture, and form. Multi-stemmed Arbutus compacta and Feijoa sellowiana act as placeholders in the front landscape while Cordyline and Leucadendrons add focal interest and softening. Pennisetum spathiolatum and Lomandra add evergreen elements to support Phormiums and Euphorbia.

Testimonial
"After interviewing five landscape designers I was very impressed after my first meeting with Margaret. She emailed me the next day with detailed notes and had gotten every detail correct. No one else came close to 50%. Prompt responses, detail oriented, and an absolute artist with the plants. Margaret came with wonderful ideas, and was able to explain the thought process behind the concepts. Her work turned out absolutely beautiful. She partnered incredibly well with West Coast Landscaping on the install and has been available for follow up questions as the plants have grown in. People regularly stop and ask me who was responsible for my landscaping. I’m always happy to refer them to Margaret." —John K.
